Batch #64 - 3x1oz Ale

Started batch on Apr 28, 2011:

Recipe:

  • 6.0 lb Pilsen Malt Extract (Northern Brewer)
  • 1.5 lb Mutson Plain Light (dry)
  • 1.0 oz hop pellets (Warrior, 17.2% alpha) 60 min
  • 1.0 oz hop pellets - finishing (Cascade, 6.1% alpha) 20 min
  • 1 tbs Irish Moss, last 15 min
  • 1.0 oz hop pellets - aroma (Cascade, 6.1% alpha) less then 3 min
  • Nottingham yeast (dry ale type)
  • Specific gravity 1,062

Procedure:

Sanitized everything with Star San. Boiled wort for 60 minutes and then cooled down with cooper coil cooler. Pitched yeast at 75F. Covered plastic bucket with the tight cover and the airlock filled with Chopin vodka. Kept in room temperature (62F-70F)

Progress log:

  • Apr 29, 2011: Fermentation visible in the morning. every 1 sec in the evening.
  • Apr 30, 2011: moved to the basement's 62F because fermentation to rapid and foam in airlock.
  • May 2, 2011: fermentation done.
  • May 4, 2011: racked to secondary at SG 1,014.
  • May 11, 2011: kegged at SG 1,010).

Evaluation:

  • May 17, 2011: Tasted first glass: great beer with very light color.
  • May 23, 2011: Best beer so far. Olek and Tomek like it very much.
  • May 30, 2011: Best beer. Gone and all kegs empty. Should never happen again.
